To host another website in cPanel, create its domain entry with a separate document root, then configure DNS and HTTPS. Adding the entry does not register the domain or automatically move its existing website and email.
Prepare the domain and account
Confirm that you control the domain and that the hosting account permits an additional domain. Record its current DNS, mail service and website location before making changes. If the site is already live, plan and test its migration before changing public DNS.
Create the website entry
Current cPanel documentation uses Domains rather than the older standalone Addon Domains screen. Availability and fields depend on the installed version and provider settings.
- Sign in to the intended cPanel account and open Domains.
- Choose Create a New Domain and enter the domain you control.
- For a separate website, do not share the primary domain's document root. Review the proposed directory before submitting.
- Create the entry and confirm its domain and document root in the domain list.
The domain-creation documentation explains the available options. If the separate-root option is unavailable or a quota prevents creation, ask the provider to confirm the account's scope; do not delete another site's entry to make room.
Upload, connect and verify
Use the new domain's actual document root when uploading files. Verify the intended site before switching traffic. Change records at the authoritative DNS service, which may be separate from cPanel, and preserve existing mail records unless email is also moving.
After DNS points to the intended service, verify the certificate for each required hostname and test HTTPS, redirects and application functions. An additional domain within one hosting account is not an independent security boundary; sites can share account permissions and resource limits. Record the domain, root, DNS owner and recovery contact for future maintenance.
