Storage Servers Explained: Access Models, Capacity and Performance
A storage server provides data storage and access to applications or users. It may serve shared files, present storage volumes to other systems, or run an object-storage service. Its role is defined by how data is stored and accessed, not simply by having many drives. A storage server can hold live data, recovery copies or retained records; those uses are not interchangeable.
