Choosing an alternative to Bahnhof requires separating the infrastructure requirement from the privacy language around it. Bahnhof operates a cloud portfolio; it should not be dismissed as a traditional-only host. This guide compares Bahnhof Cloud with Tilaa's infrastructure and application-platform options, focusing on service boundaries and the evidence needed before moving a workload.
WebCare360 publishes this guide and sells hosting. This is a review of published product information checked on 28 September 2026, not an independent benchmark, legal assessment or provider ranking. No numerical review score or superior privacy outcome is claimed.
Identify the Bahnhof service being replaced
Bahnhof Cloud lists VPC, VPS, VMware, S3 storage, accelerated computing and custom-platform services, and says it operates from Swedish datacenters. Replacing a single VPS is a different project from moving a VMware estate or an object-storage application. Write down the actual service and dependencies before making a shortlist.
A Swedish location is a useful factual input to a location requirement. It is not, by itself, proof that a particular customer's processing is compliant, immune to lawful requests or protected against every form of surveillance. Assess the processing arrangement and contractual obligations separately.
Distinguish Tilaa infrastructure from Nexaa
Tilaa identifies Dutch datacenters and separates its infrastructure cloud platform from the Nexaa application platform. Its portfolio includes cloud servers, block storage, snapshots and managed backups. A VM replacement and an application-platform migration therefore need different acceptance criteria.
For a virtual server, test the operating environment and the duties your team retains. For an application platform, first establish whether the runtime, persistent state, background work and deployment process fit its supported model. Do not assume application-platform convenience includes every dependency used by the existing server.
Compare the required boundary, not a generic feature count
| Current dependency | Replacement evidence | Decision consequence |
|---|---|---|
| A Swedish hosting-location requirement | Exact candidate region and the organization's documented location constraints | A Dutch region may be unsuitable even if the application runs correctly. |
| VMware-specific tooling | Supported image, networking and operating procedures on the exact candidate service | A generic VPS is not automatically a drop-in replacement. |
| Object storage | Required API operations, access controls and export/import behavior | Application compatibility must be checked separately from compute capacity. |
| Application deployment | Supported runtime, builds, secrets, scheduled work, storage and rollback | A platform move can change the operating model, not just the hosting address. |
| Recovery | Backup scope, retention, restore ownership and a successful authorized restore exercise | A listed backup product does not prove the chosen order contains it or meets recovery needs. |
Document the governance review
Identify the contracting entity, relevant processing terms, locations of application data and copies, and access by support or subprocessors. Have the responsible person review these against the actual data and obligations. Treat marketing descriptions as questions to substantiate, not as customer-specific legal conclusions. Keep unresolved contractual questions visible rather than turning them into an invented privacy score.
Run a bounded compatibility trial
Select a representative nonproduction workload without unnecessary personal data. Verify deployment, network access, persistent data, recovery and the functions users depend on. Measure from the audience that matters. Record the configuration and dates so the result can be repeated. Compare equivalent cost periods, including migration work, required extras and the time both environments will overlap.
Finish with one of three outcomes: retain the existing Bahnhof service, proceed with a specified compatible replacement, or hold because a documented requirement is unmet. An alternative deserves consideration because it fits that record, not because it appears higher in a top-ten table.
Turn the governance review into an actionable brief with hosting migration requirements.
